Emily Bache was recently at PyCon in Stockholm to give the keynote on Development culture and helping the business to win. She will give the talk again, for this group. Don’t miss it!
Talk description:
As a consultant software developer, I get to see a lot of different workplaces. It’s striking how different the development culture can be. Some places do loads of pair programming, others use pull requests or formal group code reviews. Some do none of the above. Some have extensive automated test suites. Others have manual testers in a far-away timezone, writing bug reports while we sleep. A few are doing testing in production.
It’s also true that there is a wide variation in success between different organizations that build software. Some have suffered infamy due to embarrassing bugs, others are renowned for their quick responses to bug reports and customer requests. I think there is a red line connecting the way software is developed, with the success of the organization. I also think we, as software developers, have a position of power, and a lever to move the business in a better direction.
Emily Bache is a Senior Consultant at Praqma. She helps teams to adopt Continuous Delivery practices and improve their automated testing. Emily is the author of ”The Coding Dojo Handbook” and loves to coach and teach developers.
